Harriet Dart apologizes after telling opponent to ‘put on deodorant’ during match

During a tense match at the Rouen Open on April 15, 2025, British tennis player Harriet Dart found herself in the middle of a controversy when she told the umpire that her French opponent, Lois Boisson, “smells really bad” and needed to put on deodorant.

Boisson, who had just defeated Dart in a surprising upset, took the situation in stride and responded with humor.

She posted a photoshopped image on Instagram of herself mid-serve, holding a deodorant can, and playfully tagged Dove, joking about a “much-needed collab.”

Realizing her misstep, Dart quickly apologized on Instagram, expressing regret for the comment and emphasizing that it didn’t reflect the sportsmanship she strives to demonstrate.

Boisson, who’s ranked 303rd and returning from an injury, managed to pull off an impressive victory against Dart, who is ranked 62nd, marking her return to the WTA Tour with a strong start.
